Our Story

OK, we’ve had a couple of iterations of the "About Us" section on Snubbies.com, which I didn't like very much. Enough of the marketing BS! My name is Brian Devening, Co-founder of Snubbies, and I’ve owned English Bulldogs for 30 years. When I was 10 years old, I saw the movie "Rocky" and was struck by Rocky’s Mastiff named Butkus. Not long after, I encountered some English Bulldogs and was awestruck by their funny looks and personalities. I remember the bulldog's look at me while I was blown away by the real-life contradiction. The looks I got from the bulldogs seemed to say, “What are you looking at? You’re the funny-looking one.” Sold! I grew up with labs/hunting dogs. Make no mistake, I loved those dogs and have incredibly fond memories of them. However, this encounter with English Bulldogs was clearly life-changing, as I remember telling my brother that I would have an English Bulldog when I grew up and name him Butkus. Sure enough, in my 20s, while I was working selling human supplements to stores nationwide, I got my first bulldog from Bill Skidmore. My brother and I met Bill Skidmore halfway between Dallas and his town. He showed up with a plastic tub overflowing with 9-week-old bulldog puppies. When he put the tub on the ground, one energetic bulldog (and I use that word loosely for bulldogs) jumped out and ran over to me. This was Butkus, and he was a real piece of work! Butkus has been followed by (Ruby) AKA Lil Sug, Gordo, Pretty Girl, and Lunchbox. Since selling human supplements, I’ve been a software entrepreneur and director in private equity investments for a company. I didn’t want to do that anymore. I felt I needed to be around positive things, and to me, that meant dogs. I have dealt with the high-maintenance needs of bulldogs for 30 years and spent a fortune on vet bills that always ultimately were for antibiotics or steroids. They worked while my dog was taking them, but the problems flared up right after discontinuing. I started Snubbies because I knew many years ago that preventative health supplementation was important for dogs, just as it is for people. My business partner, Chris Glaser, and I spent a lot of time and effort on the product line development for Snubbies. We worked with some of the best vets/scientists in the pet supplement industry. None of this should make you buy Snubbies products, but I guarantee you that we will make the best damn products we can. Not only because it's the right thing to do, but also because I feed them to my dogs. Dogs are angels and should be treated accordingly.
